As regards composition, choice of colours and the typology of the plant elements this painting is a characteristic product of Zola’s brush. We can compare it with a series of landscapes owned by the Cassa del Risparmio in Ferrara, where they have been since the late 18th century and have always been attributed to Zola. However, in comparison with the landscapes in Ferrara, our canvas shows more marked influences of Ricci’s painting, in particular on the right side of the composition. Therefore the authorship of Zola’s daughter Margherita would appear to be excluded. She copied her father’s manner, but with less artistic power.
