Winter at Puštal
Already in his old age, the artist fondly recalled his childhood in Škofja Loka, where his family had moved after his father’s death in 1884. He remembered his friends, his first love, whom he thought as beautiful as an angel, the magnificent landscapes, interesting characters from the town’s streets, and especially the undulating line of rooftops that he observed regularly from his own loft at home. The artist himself explained that those images played a decisive role in the development of his style, which is obvious from his paintings in a variety of aspects. Puštal is a village right near Škofja Loka and his Winter at Puštal (Zima v Puštalu) was created as an homage to the now elderly artist’s childhood.
