Kos studied in Vienna and Zagreb. After World War II he was appointed professor at the academy of fine arts in Ljubljana where he was also rector; he was awarded Prešeren Prize twice. He also engaged in photography. On the one side he received big state commissions which required revolutionary euphoria, monumentality and obedience to ideology, and on the other he developed modernism in his still lifes which are the supreme achievements of his oeuvre.
