View of Ljubljana Marches
Matija Jama returned from Belgrade to Ljubljana in 1923, having lost hope of finding a new audience with interest in his work. In his hunt for striking new motifs, he set out to portray the landscapes and stunning views around Bled, right near Zasip and towards Gorje. He also worked in Ljubljana, producing one of his most well-known motifs of the panorama from the southeastern slope of the Castle Hill and along the Ljubljanica River towards Krim. The afternoon light caresses the extension of the city center stretched along Gruber’s Canal towards Špica. This time, Jama was not seeking to capture a moment in time, but rather highlighted the harmonious mood of the landscape stretching into distance, which shows the river banks angling closer together as the thinned stream meets the blueish monolith of Krim and the surrounding hills on the horizon.
